February 20-27, 2018 A Whale of An Adventure – From The Sea of Cortez to The Pacific
Loreto is a city located in Baja California, on the Gulf of California. Loreto is rich in history & natural wonders and is a charming small town located on the west coast of the Sea of Cortez. Loreto is the oldest settlement in the Baja California, in fact it was the capital for 133 years until it was moved to La Paz. Loreto was founded 1697, with the first mission on the Baja built here by a Jesuit priest.
The Gulf of California also known as the “Sea of Cortez” is a migrating home of the Blue Whale, considered the largest animals to have ever lived. A short trip from Loreto, we take an excursion on the Sea, to see the Blue Whales & Coronado Island, home of colonies of dolphins, sea lions and pelicans, ideal for snorkeling, with lovely sandy beaches.
During our tour we will travel two hours away on the Pacific side to the port at Lopez Mateos, taking a boat excursion to visit the baby Gray Whales. An hour away, a day trip to a the village of San Javier, set in a “time machine of 1875”. San Javier mission is the “jewel” of the Baja California missions & the most preserved.
